FIRST Tech Challenge

Each September FIRST releases a new game challenge for the school year. Teams have about 6 weeks to build a robot to meet the game’s requirements. Then teams strategize game play and cooperate with other teams at FTC meets to score points during the competition.

In 2005 FIRST Tech Challenge is introduced as pilot to provide a more accessible FIRST experience.

9,600+ students in 800+ teams competed in Texas.

70,400+ students in 53 countries developed STEM skills, practiced engineering principles, and worked as a FTC Team in 2022.

Even with just one year of FIRST participation, study participants are 2-3xs more likely to have gains in STEM outcomes than a comparison group of peers not participating in FIRST.

Our Values

The mission of Gigabytes of Guac is to provide opportunities for San Antonio students to learn engineering and business skills through competitive robotics in a professional and positive environment.

Gracious Professionalism

A term coined by FIRST, Gracious Professionalism is a way of doing things that encourages high-quality collaborative work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community.

Coopertition is founded on the concept and a philosophy that teams can and should
help and cooperate with each other even as they compete.

Collaboration, mutual respect, and collective responsibility are key components to being a successful robotics team member.
